How to Store and Clean Fresh Truffles
Truffles are one of nature’s most luxurious ingredients — aromatic, elusive, and deeply flavorful. At Fresh-Truffles.com, we specialize in wild truffles foraged from the untouched forests of Bulgaria, offering a fresh selection year-round, each variety arriving with the changing seasons.
To preserve their delicate character and maximize your culinary experience, it's important to know how to properly store and clean your truffles.
How to Store Fresh Truffles
For optimal flavor and aroma, enjoy your truffle within 2 to 3 days of delivery. Always choose whole truffles — we never offer pre-cut ones unless requested for immediate use.
Store your truffle in the refrigerator at 2–4°C (35–39°F). Wrap it loosely in clean, dry tissue paper and place it in a breathable container. Replace the tissue daily to reduce moisture buildup and preserve aroma.
Avoid storing truffles with rice or salt unless you’re intentionally infusing those items — they will absorb the aroma. Do not freeze truffles, as this damages their texture and unique fragrance.
How to Clean Truffles
When ready to use, your truffle may have a slight reddish tint from oxidation — a natural and safe process.
You can clean your truffle by rinsing it briefly under cold water, then gently scrubbing away any dirt with a special truffle brush or soft toothbrush. After cleaning, dry it immediately and thoroughly with a paper towel before use or returning it to storage.
The Best Way to Enjoy
Truffles are best enjoyed raw, finely shaved over a finished dish. Cooking can dull their complex aroma, so always add them last.
We recommend 4 to 5 grams per person for the perfect gourmet touch.
